Where Running Meets Bodrum’s Golden Autumn

The 9th International Bodrum Half Marathon Brings 2,500 Runners From 23 Countries to Türkiye’s Aegean Coast
Before much of Bodrum had settled into its Sunday rhythm, runners were already moving through streets shaped by thousands of years of history.

At 7 a.m., the first wave left the start line. Fifteen minutes later came the half marathon. By 7:30, all three races were underway—and 2,500 athletes from 23 countries were discovering Bodrum in a way few visitors ever do: on foot.

Held October 2–4 under the motto “Running in Bodrum Feels Good,” the ninth International Bodrum Half Marathon brought together 21K, 10K, and 5K runners during the town’s quieter early-autumn season, when the intensity of summer begins to soften, but Bodrum’s outdoor life continues.
For one weekend, the streets belonged to runners.

A Course Through Layers of Bodrum
The appeal was not simply the distance.
The routes moved through some of Bodrum’s most recognizable landmarks, carrying runners past the ancient Myndos Gate, the Bodrum Ancient Theatre, Kumbahçe, and the marina before the longer 21K course stretched toward Bitez and Konacık.

It created an unusual rhythm: racing shoes against ancient stone, competition beside the waterfront, and runners moving between the archaeological, residential, and coastal faces of the town.

The 21K demanded endurance. The 10K offered speed. The 5K opened the road to a wider field of participants.
But all three shared the same setting—and the same sense that the course was offering more than kilometers.
It was offering Bodrum itself.

The Stories Beyond the Stopwatch
Some of the weekend’s most memorable moments had little to do with finishing times.
After completing his race, Hasan Can Altıner proposed to Beste Mürşitoğlu, turning a finish-line memory into something considerably more permanent as nearby runners and spectators joined the celebration.

The finisher medals carried another story.
Each was prepared by children with special needs studying through the Bodrum Health Foundation, giving thousands of athletes a keepsake shaped not only by the race but also by hands from the community hosting it.
That detail changed what the medal represented.
It was no longer simply proof of finishing.
It carried part of Bodrum home with every runner.

From Finish Line to Beach Party
And Bodrum did not send its runners home when the racing stopped.
The celebration moved to Ortakent, where the Surfer Caravan Finisher Beach Party brought athletes back together—this time without bib numbers or split times.

A DJ set, live performances by Neyzen and BATE Bahadır Aksoy, and a beachside atmosphere carried the weekend from competition into celebration.
After a morning measured in kilometers and seconds, the final hours belonged to music, conversation, and the simple pleasure of having finished.
For a race held in Bodrum, perhaps there was no more fitting ending.

Why Bodrum Stays With You
A half marathon can be measured in kilometers, pace, and finishing times.
But weekends like this are remembered differently.
Maybe it’s the sight of runners passing an ancient theater before the town fully wakes.
Maybe it’s the medal waiting at the finish line, made by children who became part of the race without ever stepping onto the course.
Or maybe it’s the way a morning of competition ends barefoot by the coast, with music playing and the race already turning into a memory.

Next year, the Bodrum Half Marathon will celebrate its 10th edition.
By then, some will return for a faster time.
Others may come simply because, somewhere between the ancient streets and the Aegean shore, Bodrum gave them a reason to run here again.
