ITTF World Youth Championships Istanbul 2026
The names may not be familiar to every sports fan yet. But the talent will be impossible to miss.
On November 21–28, 2026, the ITTF World Youth Championships will bring the next generation of international table tennis stars to Istanbul, where eight days of competition will determine the world’s youth champions. Hosted at Ata Sporları Merkezi in Küçükçekmece, the tournament will mark a historic first: Türkiye's first-ever ITTF world title event, bringing one of the sport's most prestigious youth competitions to the city connecting Europe and Asia.
The championships will feature the world's leading young players in the Under-19 and Under-15 age categories. Boys and girls will compete across team events, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, with world titles at stake. Spectators can expect lightning-fast rallies, extraordinary reflexes, tactical precision, and the kind of pressure that can turn a promising young athlete into a world champion. This is a competition with an impressive history. Some of table tennis's biggest names, including Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, and Sun Yingsha, have competed on this stage during their rise to international success.
For Türkiye, the tournament will carry an additional sense of anticipation. At the 2025 World Youth Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Turkish players Görkem Öcal and Kenan Kahraman reached the U15 Boys' Doubles final, earning silver medals against China's Zhou Guanhong and Yu Haiyang. With the championships now coming to Istanbul, the host nation will have an opportunity to build on that achievement in front of a home crowd.
Istanbul will offer visiting athletes, families, and supporters plenty to discover between matches. From Küçükçekmece Lake and the Florya waterfront to the historic streets of Sultanahmet, Galata Tower, the Grand Bazaar, and ferries crossing the Bosphorus, the city will provide a memorable setting for an international championship week. Its food culture will add another experience, with simit, a sesame-crusted Turkish bread ring; balık ekmek, grilled fish served in crusty bread; freshly baked baklava, layered pastry filled with nuts and syrup; and traditional Turkish coffee.
The champions of tomorrow will have their moment in Istanbul. For those in the stands, it will be a chance to witness extraordinary young talent before the rest of the world learns their names. And beyond the arena, a city of two continents, centuries of history, and unforgettable experiences will be waiting to be explored.
