27th International Arena AquaChallenge Swimming Championships
The Mediterranean will become an open-water racecourse on October 24–26, 2026, as the 27th International Arena AquaChallenge Swimming Championships bring swimmers to two of Türkiye's most beautiful coastal destinations: Marmaris and Göcek. Surrounded by pine-covered mountains, sheltered bays, and the turquoise waters of the Turkish Riviera, the three-day event will combine competitive swimming, personal endurance challenges, team races, and the pleasure of being in the sea long after the summer crowds have gone.
The championship will open in İçmeler, Marmaris, on October 24, with the 3K and 2K open-water races, followed by a mixed 4×400m relay. As evening arrives, the 300m Night Swim will bring a different atmosphere to the water, adding a memorable after-dark experience to the opening day. Competition will continue on October 25 with the 5K and 1K races, a 200m AquaKids event, and women's and men's 3×400m relays. On October 26, the championship will move to Göcek, where the 10K open-water race will provide the final endurance challenge.
Few settings will make open-water swimming feel quite like this. In İçmeler, swimmers will enter the Mediterranean beneath forested hills, while supporters can follow the action from a coastline known for its beaches, cafes, and relaxed seaside atmosphere. Göcek will offer a different view of the same remarkable region, with its sailing heritage, peaceful coves, marinas, and islands scattered across the bay.
Beyond the competition, visitors can explore Marmaris Castle, the Old Town, Turunç, nearby bays, and the region's famous boat routes. Local tables will bring another reason to stay, with fresh seafood, olive oil dishes, stuffed zucchini flowers, fragrant pine honey, and the flavors of the Aegean coast.
For swimmers, the challenge will be measured in kilometers. For everyone watching from shore, the reward will be just as memorable: pine-covered mountains, clear blue water, boat-filled horizons, and three days when the Mediterranean itself becomes the main attraction.
